Zolani Phakade – A 3 Times SAFTA Winner, Royality Award and Int. Emmy Nominee.
Growing up in a close-knit family, Zolani Phakade’s love for storytelling, music, and the mysteries of the universe was ignited. However, his childhood was marked by fear, trauma, and self-doubt. Phakade’s father was absent and he was beaten by his stepfather, which eroded his self-love and confidence.
A Turning Point
Phakade’s experiences could have easily broken him, but he chose a different path. He attempted to take his own life but survived. This near-death experience became a turning point. Phakade discovered his passion for storytelling, which became his salvation.

A Distinguished Career
With a career spanning over two decades, since 2001, Zolani has established himself as a renowned filmmaker and storyteller. He has worked tirelessly to hone his craft, taking on various roles from production assistant to series director.

A Humble Heart and Unwavering Determination
Despite his impressive achievements, Phakade remains humble and grounded. “All my achievements and career highlights are unbelievable, yet I know deep down that I worked hard and deserve these opportunities,” he says.
Phakade’s experience working on the popular African telenovela, “The River,” left an indelible mark on his heart. “The River will always be in my heart,” he says. “The wedding on the river that I organized, I think no one has ever done it like I did.”
For Phakade, storytelling transcends mere entertainment; it’s a sacred calling. “I believe storytelling was a calling more than a job,” he emphasizes. “My measure of success is telling a story that resonates and leaves a mark.”

A Spiritual Approach to Storytelling
Zolani’s approach to storytelling is deeply spiritual. He believes that his purpose is to serve a higher power. “I believe I serve my purpose of being, which means God,” he says. “Lessons are always there in front of us. “Zolani also believes in the importance of vibrating at a higher frequency to connect with the universe. “I measure success by the frequency I vibrate in,” he explains. “I speak about getting close to the universe.”
